Returning to Holiness – Preparing for the Journey

I’m beginning a journey…Returning to Holiness by Dr. Gregory R. Frizzell.  According to scripture, only cleansed hearts have mighty power with God…Hosea 10:12 KJV “Sow yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteous upon you.”

Let me begin by saying, if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are saved! Nothing can change that ~ well, except for a complete, and total reversal from Him.  Ephesians 2:8-9 KJVFor by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:”

This journey is about walking more like Christ by learning to truly repent of our sins.

The world is in a moral decline.  All we have to do is take a look at the news… things that were once wrong are not acceptable, there are rumors of war, there is rampant sickness… the world is in denial of the existence of God, of Christ.  Yet, through it all,  there are still many signs that God is touching His children.  Many believers and churches are seeing the miraculous movement of God’s spirit.

The key for experiencing God’s mighty presence and power in our lives is found in Isaiah 59: 1-2 KJV “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”

Do you see the crucial point?

God is so willing to touch us yet unconfessed sin has blocked His power to answer our prayers. Have you ever rushed through your prayer times? Have you ever failed to review your day to see where sin may have built up between you and God? I have!

1 John 1:9 KJV “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Psalm 139:23-24 KJV “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead in the way everlasting.”

We must be willing to allow God to search our hearts! Though we may say that we ask God to search our hearts, do we really?  Or do we try to hold some things back from Him, from His all seeing eyes?  We must learn to speak our darkness, our errors so He may renew in us a clean heart, so He will cleanse us. We cannot gloss over what we think He must not see.  He sees all and we are only fooling ourselves when we fail to share errors with Him.  We must spend the time to get alone with God and allow Him to help us to thoroughly examine our lives.  We can’t hide things from God, even if there are times we want to.  He knows all things yet He wants us to come to Him.

Think about how you  received Jesus?  You received Him by simple faith and trusted the Word was true.  Though our flesh fights every step of the way, we must walk in victory over sin and self.  Sounds so simple, doesn’t it?  Yet we all know how difficult this walk is!  We struggle every day and will struggle until we meet with Him in Heaven…Sinners we are. Colossians 2:6 KJV gives us tremendous help, a place to lean when we feel overcome, “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him.”

Let’s keep in mind on this journey…

Allow God to speak to your heart.  Pray through what you read, talk to God about it and He will talk to you.  If He reveals a sin to you, immediately confess it and trust Christ for victory.  Proverbs 28:13 KJV “He that coverth his sins shall not prosper: but who so confesseth and forforsaketh them shall have mercy.”  We need to allow Jesus to fill our hearts with His glorious purity and power.

Ask God for deep conviction and clear discernment.  We can not know our own hearts without God’s revelation to us.  Jeremiah 17:9 KJV says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

Embrace this cleansing journey daily with God.  Daily confession and cleansing are the essence of walking in the Spirit. Psalms 86:3 KJV “Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily.”

Confess your sins with the assurance of God’s mercy and blessing.  Do not be afraid of what God will show you.  Whatever sin you are shown, Christ already died for it!  God already knows about it anyway!  God doesn’t convict you to condemn you, but to set you free!  John 8:36 KJV “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

Be prepared for spiritual battle.  Satan will hate what you are doing in this journey as you become clean before God and fully empowered by the Holy Spirit. James 4:8 KJV “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.  Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.”

Ask trusted friends to pray for you in the areas that you need change.  There is great power when two or more pray in agreement together.  Don’t let pride keep you from confessing to others.  James 5:16 KJV “Confess your faults to one another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.  The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Incomplete confession leads to incomplete cleansing… Allow God to do a deep daily cleaning daily ~ you will experience life-changing discipleship!

Father, Thank You for Your glorious invitation!  May you grant us a passion for holiness ~ not just for blessings but because we love You. Let us not forget to wash our robes white.  As we enter now into Your holy presence may we hear and respond to Your desire to change our lives. By Your grace may we respond to Your urgent call.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.
